Artist's Comments

I've been reading Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air again, and it has inspired some thoughts on the topography of Everest... thus the Terragen render using a DEM from the region. As far as I can discern, Everest ( Sagarmatha ) is the peak to the right in the image. You can't really make out the South Col or the Step, but it does give a general impression.

looks really nice...but maybe a bit smushed, from the top and bottom.
:iconteufelkind:
Do you mean that it is cropped too closely at the top and bottom?
:iconderek-ud:
i mean it looks like someone is pushing from the top and from the bottom and is smushing it :(

Ok, I understand what you are saying. I am not seeing any smush or distortion myself. I tried to pay close attention to the scale when setting up the terrain for render. I was tempted to stretch the terrain a tad to make it look more dramatic, but I resisted. It might be that the angle at which the camera is set serves to make the terrain look less dramatic. When I set the camera at the base of the south west face it seemed too steep! And now it might seem smushed! Oh man, I can't win! :)

Anyone else see the smushing effect we are discussing here?

I want to know how God created this world. I am not intrested in this or that phenomenon. I want to know His thoughts, the rest are details.
